Fantasy Football

12 08 2011

I really love playing fantasy football and planned on only playing in one league this year.  Somehow I am now in 3 leagues, two of which are drafting on the same day.  Being in Jordan I will have very little time for my teams this year, but I thought I would pay homage to my current hometown.  So, my team name in each league is “the Amman Citadels.”  Here is the team logo I whipped up:

Ode to Shea

30 09 2008

A very well written article on a fan’s last trip to Shea Stadium, while bittersweet it does help soften the events of this past Sunday.

I started listening to Mets games in the late ’80’s/ early ’90’s on an old transistor radio and it’s memories of Bob Murphy calling a Bobby Bonilla home run or even an Eddie Murphy one that I think back on fondly.  Later it was everything Mike Piazza did, at least at the plate, that would bring a smile to my face.  I’ve been to Shea several times throughout my youth and never thought of it as dingy, merely because I would see my favorite team play.  So, I will miss that stadium and the memories it brings up, but I will also be very happy to start anew, a fresh slate in a new ballpark after how the past two seasons have ended.

4-0 in Bills History

30 09 2008

A great article on the various Bills teams that have gone 4-0.  7 times this has happened, and excluding 2 years before there was a Super Bowl, 4 of 5 times made the playoffs and 2 made the Super Bowl.  A good read and optimism for the rest of the season.

Bills are 3-0!!!!!

21 09 2008

Yes it is true, the Buffalo Bills are 3-0 and stand all alone atop to AFC East after the Dolphins soundly defeated the Patriots.  Now if all this sounds strange its because this hasn’t happened in a long long time. They are 3-0 for the first time since 1992 and lead the AFC East this late in the season since I think the last time was 1999, when the Bills went to the playoffs and lost to the Titans in the Music City Miracle aka illegal forward pass.

They played a really crappy 3 quarters, but more than made up for it in the fourth.  Coming back from 9 points down in the final 5 minutes.  This is the fourth time Edwards has led the team from behind in 12 starts (I think ?)/  Anyways I am quite excited, and while trying not to get too carried away see the team making playoffs for the first time in 10 years (yes since 1999).  After that I just want to take it one game at a time.

p.s. This post is partially to cover the anxiety I am feeling as the Mets bullpen blew another lead this afternoon, so stressful.

Jose Reyes=Honus Wagner

4 09 2008

According to Matthew Cerrone at Metsblog.com Jose Reyes is on pace to hit roughly .300, with 15 home runs, 70 RBI, 15 triples, 40 doubles, 115 runs scored and 60 stolen bases. The last shortstop to hit .300 with 50 stolen bases, 20 doubles, 15 triples and 10 home runs was Honus Wagner in 1908 for the Pirates.

Yeah, so that is really amazing.  Even more amazing is the fact that Reyes was left off the All-star team in favor of Miguel Tejada.  Some have been saying that Carlos Delgado is coming up in discussions for MVP along with David Wright.  While both are deserving candidates I think Reyes is team catalyst and should be MVP if the Mets win the division.

Mets Blog

1 09 2008

Outside of archaeology probably my biggest interest is sports.  My favorite team (in any sports) is the New York Metropolitans, or Mets to most.  This past year I discovered the site MetsBlog.com a great site for any and all info Mets.  The Mets are entering the time when, a year ago, they slowly fell apart losing a 7 game lead to the Philadelphia Phillies.  The team this year looks completely different in terms of confidence and leadership, perhaps having something to do with Jerry Manuel, who took over for Willie Randolph mid-year.  Anyways, if I don’t post for awhile later this month its likely because I’m huddled in a corner whispering to myself “Why Mets, Why?!?!”  So lets hope that doesn’t happen.

Dick Bavetta = Tim Donaghy?

13 06 2008

I guess Donaghy, the NBA referee who confessed to gambling on games he reffed in, needs some kind of info to get his sentence reduced.  But as this Sports Guy column proves, everyone knows Bavetta is at the very least incompetent.  So basically he is easy pickings for a scumbag like Donaghy
