Jose Reyes=Honus Wagner

4 09 2008

According to Matthew Cerrone at Metsblog.com Jose Reyes is on pace to hit roughly .300, with 15 home runs, 70 RBI, 15 triples, 40 doubles, 115 runs scored and 60 stolen bases. The last shortstop to hit .300 with 50 stolen bases, 20 doubles, 15 triples and 10 home runs was Honus Wagner in 1908 for the Pirates.

Yeah, so that is really amazing.  Even more amazing is the fact that Reyes was left off the All-star team in favor of Miguel Tejada.  Some have been saying that Carlos Delgado is coming up in discussions for MVP along with David Wright.  While both are deserving candidates I think Reyes is team catalyst and should be MVP if the Mets win the division.

It is amazing the things you can find on the internet.  Here is a picture of warehouse facility of the British Museum in 1852, soon after the wave of finding “monuments” from the Middle East began.

Josephus’ “First Wall” of Jerusalem Found

4 09 2008

An Israel Antiquities Authority team has reexcavated an area of the Hasmonean city wall dating from the 3rd century BCE.  The area excavated is on the south side of Mt. Zion next to the Catholic Cemetery where Oskar Schindler is buried.  The wall (including a tower preserved to 3m in height) was originally excavated by Bliss and Dickie in the late 1800’s using a tunneling system.  Not exactly the best way to do archaeology.  Remains of the Byzantine city wall were also discovered.
