And Now For Something Completely Different

1 09 2008

Back to Safut, time to take a break from the politics and get back to archaeology.  With teaching, work, and class I haven’t kept up with blogging on an area of Safut a month (or week, whatever I wrote).  So a new idea, one picture per week.  Until I start actually working on the dissertation this will be the main weekly update.

Statue representing Egyptian god Thoth.

I have previously posted on this statue from Safut.  However I recently found this picture while searching for information on Safut.  Unlike the previous picture, this one is in color and shows the side of the figurine.  So now one can see that the monkey is actually carrying an animal.  It appears to be a lamb and this type of figurine is very unusual in the Levant.
